How do I tell whether my 6N2 is a 54 or 60 HP model. I'm trying to buy a thermostat on ebay but I get a choice of 2......

Engine Code. AKK VW Polo 2001 6N2 [1999-2001] Hatchback Hatchback 1.4 1390ccm 60HP 44KW (Petrol)
Engine Code. AKP VW Polo 2001 6N2 [1999-2001] Hatchback Hatchback 1.4 1390ccm 54HP 40KW (Petrol)

I've looked at the log book but that tells me nothing.

The part is a Febi Bilstein OE quality coolant thermostat......£6.85 free delivery

Doesn't matter. Both get the same part.
The thermostat you're looking for is the 032121110B and i would strongly advise to get a genuine vw part.

I've just checked that number on Ebay and it says it's not compatible with my vehicle....................

Unless you have a gti, which you don't, this is the correct one.
I double checked with ETKA.
Alex can confirm this.

(ebay compatibility catalogues are not trustworthy)

Hi Tribal and thanks for your advice. I've looked on Ebay for a VW part and found this. Would you say this is correct.
It is compatible with the above 2 versions of vehicle in my previous post.

Febi 17902 is the comparable part number

I would normally recommend going for genuine VW but Febi are very good quality and would have no hesitation recommending them for this

eBay catalogues are often incorrect

On the enter part number, you can put in a VW part number and it will give you the febi equivalent

Otherwise, go to catalogue, stick in your reg and itll show all the compatible parts.

If I type in thermostat it comes up with 2 different part numbers. Will either one of these do for my car or am I missing something?

You click the little i next to the item line

17902 has an 87C opening temp (normal use)
17922 has an 80c opening temp (warm countries)

You may find there will be a variance between your definition of 'as good as I can get it' and the lads.
ie. coloured LED sidelight bulbs, silly tyres etc. etc.
