Hi,

I've got a GTI on order but have a question re the above.

Before I ordered the dealership only had a Blue GT to test/look over.

Having now ordered I see that the GTI boot is 204 lts (not 280 like the rest of the range)

How do you guys get on with pushchairs in the boot?

I've got a 7year old and a 1 1/2 year old. All my journeys are local and we don't 'travel' any length of distance in the car so don't need masses of space but I'm a bit worried if I'll even get the babies pushchair in!

A couple of times a year we do the airport run but other than that just space for the pushchair is needed.

Any experiences would be appreciated.

Haven't tried a pushchair and obviously it depends how big it is but I think you would struggle to fit one in with the parcel shelf in place..

As far as I know the only difference between the boot size on the GTI and the standard Polos is just the depth as the battery is in the boot so maybe try a standard polo and see, you can always remove the parcel shelf from the GTI.

For information, it is possible to get the GTI's boot back up to 280 litres if you don't mind not having the spare wheel.

You first need to remove the polystyrene jack/tool tray, then take out the spare wheel. There is then a plastic threaded piece that unclips from the top of the battery bracket. After removing these items the boot floor can be moved to its lowest setting.

The only downside is there is no carpet covering the surrounding area like in the standard Polos. Although a carpet tray can be fitted, you'd have to remove it first if you wanted to put the spare wheel back again.

I've just got a new GTi and our pushchair *just* fits. There's a bit of space left for other odds and sods but not much, and coming from a Focus it does appear a bit small. But there I guess it would as I've gone for a smaller car.

As already said, it obviously depends on the buggy size and you do have the option of removing the spare wheel. Just taking out the boot floor would give a bit of extra space too - there's a gap between it and the spare wheel.

I've managed to get s buggy now that's quite small when folded down (L60, W40, H25 cms)
So I think that should be fine.

For the odd airport trip I can take the parcel shelf out and load on top of the buggy and use the rear foot wells too if needed so fingers crossed it'll be fine.

We're in the same situation with pushchairs. The GTI will be my wife's car, so needs to fit the pushchair in at least one day of the week.

We managed to get our large pushchair in on its side with the parcel shelf out, but not ideal. However, I've now convinced my wife to use our Petite Star Zia when out and about, which is a lot smaller. We'll just leave it in the boot.

Wasn't going to let the pushchair situation stop her from signing off on my little toy! Ha ha

I can get a folded up Brompton in my GTI, which wouldn't fit in my wife's Gold Plus, without moving the rear seat forward.

Fox1429, as the standard Polo's boot with the boot floor in the upper position is the same size as the GTI's, you could always take your buggy along to the dealer and try it for size in any 6c/6r Polo. You'll then know for certain.
