iPad mini in dash

Can anyone link me to a tutorial on replacing the stereo with an ipad mini? Ive seen it done loads before so i know it's possible, i want the ipad to charge from the battery if possible aswell.
Ive found a couple of kits online but don't really feel like spending 100 quid on this.
My plan right now is to mould fiberglass (or maybe carbon fibre cause it would look so cool) around the ipad so it can fit nicely where the stereo would go, then to use a bluetooth to aux adapter thing to put out music to the aux port. Only real problem i have is powering the iPad through the car - can i get some adapter so i can connect the USB/lightning cable directly to the head unit power?
