So I'm waiting for my new GTI to turn up and after reading some comments on here and other places the sound leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to bass.

So my question is could I fit an aftermarket under seat sub without losing the standard head unit or cutting into the loom?

I'm planning to do this myself.

Plug in behind the stereo off the rear speakers wiring, then run all the cables as usual remote could probably go on any 12 volt (ciggy lighter)

I'm thinking of putting a underseat sub in the boot under the fake floor do you reckon this would sound s**t?

But using that does it mean losing the rear speakers or using most of the 'volume' from the rear speakers?

Hmm sub in the boot would be ok if it's been sound deadened, and removing the tools etc so they don't rattle. Depending on size an underseat sub would be best under one of the front seats really though

From what I have installed, it does not affect the rear speaker, but actually works with them, so you don't lose any sound. Also, you can use the fader on the head unit to turn down the volume of the sub.


I have mine installed in the boot, and it works great

I was under the impression it takes high signal and turns it into low, shouldn't effect volume

there is no iso plug on the new gti, it uses a FAKRA plug iirc

this plug is located behind the unit in the glove box

What do you guys mean by an underseat sub ?. Sorry im so confused Because fitting a subwoofer under a seat is literally impossible.
Haha could someone please explain ?. I have a sub in the back of my trunk 1000w but it takes alot of space and i had to remove the false flooring in the trunk. I would love to get a smaller one that takes less space but i have already drilled the amplifier too the backseats.

A sub usually small enough to fit under a seat or in the wheel well. Mostly a small 8" driver so not normally as powerful as a 10 or 12 but it depends what your looking for. I've had large subs years back when I first started driving but now I need boot space and don't actually like to much bass, plus for the music I listen to anything above a 10 is pointless as the cone can't move fast enough.

Yeah but I could imagine that'll cost a fortune, lose spare wheel space, not to mention on the new GTI the battery is where that's meant to go lol
