Anyone else think it's a wise idea to change the oil and filter after the running in period?

There is no such thing as a running in period in our days.
It is a relic of the past, where the assembling quality of engines etc. was less good compared with with today's standard at car factories.
So no: It would be a waste of your Money....

As Peter says, engines are machined to micro millimetre accuracy now so a running in period isn't what it used to be

My GT gets some new blood today. Castrol FST 0w-30.
Car has coverd 4900km/3000miles.
Previous oil tests shows a LOT of metal in the first oil change.

I think that VW would recommend it if it were necessary. Other vise they would rick pay a lot of money during the warranty period due to engine break downs…

I work for a vw dealership .. It wouldnt do any harm to do an oil change however its not necessary the cars come from factory with long life oil in it which is good for 20k or 2 years how ever alot of petrols get put on to a time and distance regime which for vws is 9400miles or 1 year....whilst there is still a bit of a run in period its not necessary to change the oil afterwards
