Polo 1.4 FSI Sport (No mods)
To work and back I average ~40-44mpg, around town I normally get ~30-35mpg.
Just tried filling up with Super Unleaded (Sainsbury's -- 97 RON) to see if it makes any difference to my usual mpg (using Asda Unleaded -- 95 RON)... so far it hasn't.

I guess you're looking for similar engines but i'll stick in my 2 penneth anyways......
I average around 52mpg in my 1.9tdi
I do a 40 mile roundtrip to work which is mainly nice, open, fast A-roads.
I've averaged as much as 66mpg on a single journey to work

but at the moment, with the A/C on a lot of the time, the overall tank average is down to around 48.

Is the 97ron that you're getting from the Supermarket low sulphur content? If not its probably the reason your not getting as good mpg as you should? I have NEVER filled my car with supermarket petrol, because there fuel tends to be very poor quality and theres no comeback if you get a bad tankfull of the stuff. Unlike with Shell/Esso etc.
The best fuel for any FSi engine is Shell Optimax as it has the lowest Sulphur content on the market. Its more expensive than normal petrol but the extra mpg you get out of it means you can save about £7.50 per tank. Not much but when your filling your car up 4 times a month it all adds up

Then theres the slightly better performance figures too...
You won't notice a difference straight away when you convert from normal to low sulphur fuel. You need at least two tankfulls worth before you've cleared the system and you start seeing improvements.
Hope this helps
Anyway, my figures
Pre-chip: 47.9mpg (45 with air con constanly on)
Post SKN tuning chip: 46.5-53mpg

(about 42-46mpg with air con constanly on)

To be honest I didn't really notice... I was in a rush as the place was about to shut.
Still, the standard Unleaded stuff I generally get from ASDA is low sulphur, so if the stuff I got from Sainsbury's isn't that might go a way to explaining it.

That's one reason why I wanted to try the higher octane fuel to begin with, but I figured I'd try the cheapest I could find first... what can I say; old habbits die hard

Yeah, a number of others have said the same, and to be honest I got ~2mpg better mileage on the way home this evening so I'll definitely try the higher octane stuff a few more times... I'll have to see if the bank manager will let me have Optimax though

Since I have my car I've done 8000 miles on it. The average now:
24.7 miles per gallon...
I'm a bit dissapointed about that. But that's all due to the lack of having torque.

24.7? thats quite low, where do u drive mostly?

Or perhaps, "How do you drive?" would be more appropriate
I have a friend who treats the accelerator like a switch, either ON or OFF. He wonders why he gets crappy mpg
Slow moving in traffic is the biggest killer of mpg, followed by short journeys and then excessive revs, in my experience. Using high drain electrical devices like a/c, heated seats/mirrors/rear screen lower it a surprising amount too. Using A/C alone drops my mpg by about 5.

I was driving a 1.4tdi this morning with a whole 120miles on the clock. The mpg was showing as 66:shock: !! Who knows what it would be once the engine's got a few thousand miles on it and has loosened up!!
I think my next car will be a tdi!

Absolutely. I often
average over 60 to the gallon on my 20 mile drive to work right up until I hit heavy traffic at the end of the trip. It usually ends up in the low 50's. Although at the mo, with all the kids on holiday, the traffic is clear and the mpg figures are great!

Well. Normally the car runs 30 miles per gallon.
But with the many heavy foot miles doing 15 miles per gallon or so

the average is not good.
The stupid thing is:
a couple of months ago is drove a Z3 2.2 for a weekend. It did 30 miles to a gallon while driving 90 mph... The average was also 24.5 mpg with a lot of driving on hairpins nearby the Nurburgring in Germany.
So I'm driving a Polo with the appetite of a 2.2 6-in-line...
Great

Well I've just got about 35mpg (about normal), I guess that 1/4 of the miles were urban so the mpg drops like heck. On good A-roads 50-70mph and motorways (so long as I drive within the speed limit) I think I've got around 45mpg. Hmm, i'm almost tempted to do a clarkson style test, take it easy and see how far I can get before I hit the red
Oh yeah it's a 1.2 65.
