My rear tinted lights I brought of eBay arrived today. I fitted them and I can't believe how good they look, I just want someone to sit in my car & keep lightening them up. I think they were a good buy at £30

Got mine from a scrapper near me for £20
As you say, they do really modernise the car and get rid of the horrible amber bits.

Ouch. Never mind, eh. Thing is, they aren't exactly easy to find, you're just really lucky if you find a good set.

Tim, the hatch never came with tinted rear clusters. It was only the late spec (L and M reg) coupes.
If you want tinted lights, the only thing you can do that I have seen is mask them up and spray them with dark tinting spray.

is there any way to bleach the amberness out of the indicators?
or is it time to break into my old school while its shut for the hols and see if they still have that vacuum-former machine?

Tahrey, just bloody spray em!
You would never be able to get the colour out of them without damaging the plastic.
Go down to halfords or somewhere and ask them to make you up a 5:1 mix of laquer and black paint, mask off the lights so that only the indcators and the reverse light is exposed, key the surface with a fine grit sandpaper, and spray the areas coat by coat. The more coats you put on the darker it will go, so do it to your own taste.
I've seen it done before and it looks just as good as the real thing.

just know if i do it, they'll go brown
think i'll get hold of some scrap ones to play with first!
ps does that go on the inside or outside?

It goes on the ouside. If you do what I said, you wont go wrong. Get hold of some scrap sheet perpex or glass and just practice your spraying technique so you can get a nice even finish.
Don't worry, it won't turn brown!

It's only a small area you will be spraying, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

You can get european spec lights where the reverse light is on the other side. Ive managed to source one for a tenner off someone on the pitstop forum. So both sides will look the same then.

so was the patch i de-rusted!
mind you, i think i can blame it on the sudden downpour that happened about a second after i put the can down and stood back to admire my super smooth handiwork
