Problems with 15 plate 1.2 TSI SE

Hi,
Does anyone else have problems with the 1.2 TSI engine (EA211) ? Ever since buying my Polo new in March 2015, the engine has been very noisy, whining, knocking on acceleration, heavy rumbling noise on tick-over. The test car I drove was nothing like this. Also whistling/ warbling noises from dash area drives me to distraction. Senior Technician at dealer says nothing is wrong! Taken it back several times with no satisfaction, makes me feel as if I've been sold a lemon. Very dissatisfied with VW dealership - plenty of lip service but no real action.

Hello and welcome to this forum!

Noises, well the Fabia people have reported that VAG know about noisy Air Con compressors, Sandon is the manufacturer I think, maybe bring this option up with your clueless VW dealer?

Other engine noises, these engines have been described as sounding like sewing machines and not in a "a smooth as a sewing machine" way. Once they warmed up and under way they are very quiet though.

Okay, maybe low down the rev range and under load they might sound a bit diesel-ish - I think!

Maybe time to try out another VW dealer?

There are some engines with problems with chain. I dont know what i called in english but it tightens the chain. Many dont work with serious engine problems. ( new engine if it snaps ) VW just made a warrenty on that i Denmark. Must be the same all over

Something is very wrong. Insist on the dealer should hear the noise and fire up another one. If you dont get it fixed, your new polo wont last long[emoji35]

All the newer, 6R 6C Polo petrol 1.2TSI engines are belt driven completely, so no chains involved at all, so it will not be that.

Hi
Did You or Your dealer find the reason of noisy engine? I have similar situation with my Skoda Rapid with ea211 engine. Now by 8kkm it workes quieter but still louder than my dealer's demo car.

Hi Chrisol,
I have since changed this car, for various reliability issues, in September 2016 - Polo 1.2 TSI Match manual, But this car is similar - noisy rattly engine on tick-over. Also harsh ride with a lot of vibration from road surface coming into the cabin. Very dissatisfied with my overall experience, particularly the poor after sales service and intransigent attitude of the staff at the dealer - VW Macclesfield.
