New Polo GTi

Latest news, the Polo GTi will debut at the motorshow, it will have the 1.8T engine but this will be restricted to 150hp, the 180bhp being allocated to the Sportier Seat Ibiza. Booo hooo also there is no mention of a diesel variant - well that s my order cancelled!!

From the picture I saw in Autocar (I think) there are not that many body mods, just colour coded skirts and a mesh grille.

Looks like the Ibiza Cupra 150tdi will tempt me :)

Which motorshow - do you know anything about launch dates?

Seriously - I'm booked into a couple of dealers to look at a couple of straight Lupo GTIs on Thursday.

If this if coming on the scene soon, then maybe I'll hold off and wait for it.

Do you know any more, or should I nip out and buy a copy of Autocar?

Deek.

I wouldn't bother buying a copy just flick through it, also can't remember exactly which motorshow, helpful I know.

Ok, off to the newsagents in the morning, then...

After all that effort to find a Lupo GTI that hasn't been abused in some way...

Oddly, I found two examples within 15 miles of each other at the weekend. Just got my Polo back today (with broken cup holder :( ) specifically so I could take it to get valued against them.

The Cupra R is supposed to be the one to go for, though. Very much a Q car. I guess I should wait to see what VW will be asking for the GTI...

It's never simple, is it?

Ah well, a quick blat across to Tesco's reveals that:

a) It's the Frankfurt show, in September, so I guess it would be on sale around this time next year, maybe a little earlier??

b) It just looked like a stock Polo picture (albeit a very small one) - the grill looked standard to me and no body kit - might have been the barcelona alloys, but they were motion-blurred, so couldn't really tell.

oh yes, and:

c) my cup holder's still broken.

d) the car still rattles!!! I give up - time to just turn the stereo up and try to forget about it.

thing's I'd forgotten about in my seven weeks of Corsa purgatory:

e) the fantastic gear change.

f) the austounding engine note (it's only a 1.4, but at least it doesn't make whining/sewing machine type noises!) - it actually growls, like real cars should!

g) the gala function on the stereo - oh yesss!!!

h) the real mid-range acceleration.

i) the real road holding

j) the increadible brakes

k) seat that actually offer real back support

l) I could go on all night here, but I guess you guys already know all this - just trying to share my joy at getting my baby back with all - come on, let's feel the love together!!

See - one quick drive and I'm back to loving my baby!! Maybe I'll keep it (well, for a year or so, at least  )

GTI eh? Excellent :) I can see them having well over 200bhp with a few little mods 8)

Still rattles deek?
Have to agree on the engine note, it does sound nice for a 1.4!

Glad you've got it back anyway, even if it still rattles!

Trying to work out what it would likely cost, though.

If a Lupo GTI costs £13k new (£14k with air con), then I guess a Polo GTI would be £15-£16 - that would be way more than the equivalent Clio Sport or Mini Cooper. Unless they reduce the cost of the Lupo, I don't see how the New Polo GTI could be competitive on price.

Does anyone remember what the MK5 GTI cost new??

I think the mk5 was 13-14k depending on spec.

Deek, the Sport 1.9tdi is approx 13k but you have to take into account that the diesel engines are more expensive than their petrol counterparts so I'd expect a petrol GTi to be around the 14k mark, otherwise people will just buy a Golf.

I have to say it again though, that Seat is looking like a sweet deal.

So how much is the Seat Ibiza?? - can't find any info on it...

However, a quick hunt around the web gets this:

Around the 14.5-15k mark for the 150 tdi. :)

Insurance will be hefty though.
