Anyone removed the centre vents before?

Im planning on vinyl wrapping my centre console - fed up of the rubbery paint on it which chips and looks awful!

Anyway, I know how to take off the centre console itself but how do you remove the centre air vents (the ones above the radio)?

Are they held on by torx screws? and if so which size Torx would I need to do this? The only reason I ask is I have limited tools, only t20 and t15 torx but no others and therefore would need to get hold of them before I start taking this thing apart.

Thanks for the help!

Hi there Take the radio surround off then if there are any screws the will be above the radio .... also you will need a hook or a puller and through the vent at the top there is 2 cut ins one on each vent where the puller locates then they should pull out at volkswagen we have a special tool for it but it is essentially just a puller dont know how well other pullers will work ...hope this helpz

Hi thanks for replying.

Generally I'm going to pull the whole centre console out which will require removal of the radio anyway. I believe the vents are stuck on the centre console somehow but not sure how.

My vents don't come out from the front. They can't be pulled out as they seem fixed to the back of the centre console?

Ok they should come out from the front but if you are taking the center console out it might be easier to get to them etc ..... good luck

Ah ok. So how do you separate the vent from the surround after the surround has come off? Can it be done at all?

Should be able to when its all of there should be tabs on the back and the vent should just be clipped in to the surround

Perfect! Thank you.

I'll seek more advice if I have trouble getting it off
