TSI Coolant Top-up

Hi!

My 2010 Polo 1.2TSI (engine code CBZB) needs its coolant topping up, but I am unsure which type to use (G12, G12+, G12++ or G13).

The expansion tank has "G12" screen printed on it; the coolant itself is pink in colour, which leads me to think I should use one of the G12 variants.

However, the Owners Manual (11.2009 version, page 192) states "The engine coolant system is factory-filled with a mixture of water and at least 40% of the coolant additive G12 plus-plus (TL-VW 774 G) or G12 plus (TL-NW 774F). Both coolant additives are dyed purple."

I have read various on-line articles detailing the danger of using the wrong additive and do not wish to make any mistakes.

The offside engine mount carries the code 49/09, so I am thinking the motor was built very early 2010. As I recall, the build date of the car itself was March/April 2010.

I have owned the car from new; the coolant has not been changed (or indeed topped-up) since I took delivery.

All four coolant variations appear to be available on-line - can anyone please tell me which my car would have been filled with when new?

Thank you in advance.

Just buy a bottle from your local VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda dealer, it will probably be G13 and completely mixable with what is in that car. I'd just drop it in neat unless you are being a bit tight! All these "recent" VAG coolants are the same chemistry, G12 > G12+ > G12++ > G13 > more changes no doubt but still completely safe to use with what VAG filled that car with.

Edit:- now if someone is still selling G12, G12+ or G12++ in official VAG containers, I'd guess that it will be old stock being sold by an ebay seller, a main dealer will only be selling G13 now.
