Driveshaft to gearbox

6n2 gti driveshaft problems. So today the nearside inner cv joint broke, I've got another from a local parts place. The new cv joint won't fit into the cup on the gearbox and the body of the unit is slight larger.
The car is a 1.6 arc with a etd box installed, is the gearbox causing me the problem I think it was originally fitted to a 1.4 6n ?
Possibly I need a inner cv kit for a 1.4 6n ?
