VW Polo 9n 2003 1.2 Induction kit

I'm looking to fit one of those cone air intakes, I have seen a few videos on how to fit them on some cars and some Volkswagens but my filter is inside the engine cover so I'm assuming you have to keep the engine cover off if you fit a new air intake. Would anyone be able to give me a tutorial on how to fit one properly, Thanks?
