Hi there my box has just gone , the bodywork is mint but I'm having a real hard time finding a gear box , I've been offered £200 for car not really into taking that all gears work bar 4 th but it doesn't sound to good
What's everyone's advice it's 16 v 1.6 , do any other gear boxes fit this car??
Just want to get this sorted thanks in advance

Why don't you give it for a rebuild? Costly, but it will feel and work like new if its done correctly.

Take it out and get my mate to fix it he's a technician at vw?
He took it for a drive last night still had most gears , thanks for the reply yeh I'm reading buy a second hand one it could happen again at any point, such a shame this is a fairly common problem ,
As well as the electrics in the doors
I'm also reading the golf mark4 1.8 t gear box fits this car
His mate has two which he's trying to make one decent car out of so there's that option , he's gunna phone him this morning , at least he no's his stuff

The mk4 golf gearbox does not fit. You'll need an ARC or AVY appropriate gearbox

You would be best to get the gearbox properly rebuilt as the GTI has very specific ratios and if they aren't right the acceleration goes to pot

Looks like I've sorted it the o85 Lupo box fits it according to v w technician

A lupo box will fit. Just be wary of the ratios
