1997 polo gearbox problem

Can anyone possibly recommend a garage in Cambridge or surrounding area? My daughter is currently at uni in Cambridge and her beloved 1997 diesel Polo has developed a gearbox problem and had to be recovered by the AA to her college. I normally do the maintenance on her car but as I am at home in Cumbria this will not be possible on this occasion. It sounds like it needs a replacement box so any pointers or recommendations from anyone in the Cambridge area would be appreciated, as obviously a main dealer would not be interested in a car of this age.
