Hello All,

I'm hoping that maybe someone will be able to help with an issue? I have with 3 lights that I have on the dash. All came up at once upon starting the car.

They are the ESP (amber), ABS (amber) and the brake light, flashing red and beeps 3 times - they stay on.

I have ran VCDS on it and got :-

I found an article on the web suggesting this ;-

Basic Setting

Steering Angle Sensor (G85) Calibration
[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]
[Fault Codes - 02]
[Done, Go Back]
Start Engine (session still running).
Turn steering wheel at least 30 ° left and back straight ahead.
[Meas. Blocks - 08]
Group 005 Field 1 (Steering Angle Sensor -G85-)
Specification: 0.0 °
Tolerance (when straight): ±5.0 °
[Done, Go Back]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 40168
[Do It!]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 001
[Go!]
[Done, Go Back]
[Fault Codes - 02]
All fault codes should have disappeared.
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Problem was, when I went to Security access - 16, it would not accept the 40168 code.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the issue or any other code I could use? Is there a way to reset the security code??

I've found that normally, if there is a need for a security code to be able to change things, current - ie legit and up to date - versions of VCDS will lead you through this and suggest the security code needed. Have you tried making these changes without using a security code? (I've never needed to perform a re-cal)

An outside shot - are all the brake light bulbs okay, ie correct type and working, and is the brake pedal switch working okay?

I'm using an up to date version of VCDS, but it doesn't suggest what code to be used.

I have tried making the changes without a code but no joy I'm afraid.

I think that all bulbs are good, not checked to be honest.

My car has had a new brake pedal switch, I had different lights on the dash when that went pear shaped..

Oh bother! Next plan might be to - if you have not already, join the VCDS RossTech user's forum - you will need to be a verified owner/user to do that and that might mean that you need to apply to be reg'd as a verified owner/user. Once you have done that, ask this question on that forum, RossTech will get back to you so don't worry about that. Other thing to do if you have not already done so is, ask this question of the VCDS re-seller that you bought this from, they will also reply promptly.

Doing any/all of that should set you straight on that issue - which is all you want as the unknown is useless/crap!

I have solved the problem. Woohoo.

I was thinking that it was the ABS module, but today I went through things methodically and took a little more time.

It turns out that it was the steering sensor.

Once I'd re calibrated it, with the codes I had from a previous scan, bingo!

Dash lights now clear, re-scanned. No Faults..
