Hi,

Before I went on holiday I took the car to VW in order to get the breakbox recall job done. The same day i picked up the car and noticed no change with the stiffness of the clutch pedal. Anyway, I went on holiday abroad and left my car in the garage. Came back 2 and a half weeks later and started driving around as usual, no problems. Then a few days ago I was driving around when the car felt like I had my foot slightly on the break pedal.... and over the last few days it started to get worse.

Anyway, went out and came back in the morning to find that the car was really badly slowing down as if I had my foot big time on the break when I was driving around in neutral. Managed to get it home and I could smell a burning smell from the front wheels, looked at the back of the car and the break lights were on.

So it looks like the recall job has screwed the break pedal some how and now my car is stuck outside my flat 20 miles from the VW dealer. I can't drive it anywhere because the breaks are screwed, and coz its a Sunday today, the VW dealer wont be interested. Just to add it all, I'm not allowed to be parking outside my house on Monday because the water company is digging up the road and have suspended parking there.

Great.... can it get any better.. oh yeah. it needs a 40k service..

...me included. My brake pedal stuck down after the pedal box replacement. The VW dealer was not convinced at first until I showed them by pushing it down lightly by hand - the pedal stuck.

The way the dealer fixed it was they ordered a new brake pedal. It was the brake pedal return spring that had failed, probably from being stretched in the pedal box replacement I thought - they were not so sure. But I persisted.

Anyway, as the return spring is not a separate part number, they have to order the whole brake pedal assembly.

Once fitted, the problem went away.

p.s. you won't have to pay for this as it was caused by the recall work.

I checked mine when I came to collect it and it all seems fine! Phew, didn't want to have to take it back...no doubt they would have broken the clip again trying to replace the brake pedal!

I had a simular problem once not sure if its the same as yours, this happened when i bought my car a year ago.
One morning i was driving to work and the car felt like it was braking for me. Once i had got to work i could smell burning brake pads and the discs front and rear were very hot too. I took it to my Maindealer and they said it was sensor on the brake pedal which vent the air out of the brake system, because it wasn't working properly it was working in reverse, so it was pushing the brakes on instead. I could not tell you how much this cost cos they did under the cars 3 year warrenty thats if this is happening to you?
