Low Oil Pressure

Eeek!

Not five minutes in to my journey to work this morning and I get woken up (no officer, I was perfectly awake really) by a bling and an amber light on my dash. Turns out that I'm running low on oil for some reason -- the oil was only up to the top of the "b" part (see handbook) of the dip stick.

Now I have to admit, I can't actually remember checking the oil for a number of months (I always forget to refil the washer fluid too), but I'm thinking that unless there was hardly any oil there in the first place, there's something not right.

I've checked that there's no oil splatters anywhere visible under the bonnet (although I haven't checked under the plastic cover), and there's no dark patches in any of the places I regularly park (house, work) so that rules out a leak.

Still, it's got me slightly concerned. Has anyone else had anything like this occur, and how often do you folks check/refil your oil? ... maybe I really did get the Friday job after all ;-)

All new VW/Audi engines on OW-30 Oil tend to use at least a litre of oil before there first service. If you car is an '03' onwards you should have had a bottle of oil free in the boot.

Nothing to worry about, mine used a litre at 6000 miles and it hasn't asked for more since then (4 months and 7000 miles later)

Mine's a '52 plate, with just over 11k on the clock, so I guess this doesn't apply. Thanks for the info though, Nelson.

Freeky. I had exactly the same happen this morning. I'm used to it though, TDi's use oil quite steadily. I've used about 2l in 20k miles.
