Evening,

This is my first post on here and I did try a quick search but not had much luck.

I've just bought a 2001 Y GTI, the car only come with one key and the remote does not unlock the car, the fob flashes but does not unlock. Also when unlocking or locking the indicators flash for a short time.

So my questions are
1: Can I have the one key reprogrammed or can I do it myself?
2: Where is the best place to get a second key and it be programmed without the current one working?

You possibly need to resynchronise the fob aspect of the key. I’ll dig for the details as they have been posted before

As for a second key, you’ll really need to go to the dealer as the immobilized chip needs programming to the car and only VW can do this. Some auto lock smiths might be able to also but it’s hit and miss.
