I bought a 2004 1.2 E Polo a few weeks back, it runs fine once it gets going however the problem I'm having when I turn the ignition key in the morning the car starts but then cuts out after a couple of seconds and the battery light appears, if I start the engine 2 or 3 times after this the car is fine and won't cut out so to me it seems the engine needs to warm up and it's good to go, alternatively the car can start first time however I need a to apply some revs in order for it not to cut out. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be causing this? Thanks in advance

Ideally you need to get it scanned for faults. It could be a faulty temperature sensor, faulty coilpack or another issue along these lines.

It could even be as simple as a dirty air filter and throttle body
