Altered the OEM aerial by unscrewing the sticky up rubber part (that catches the tailgate when opened). Replaced with a shark fin overlay that uses a small attachement method to maintain the radio signal. Secures down with 3m double sided tape so totally reversible should you require.
Tbh looks like it should of from factory.
Congratulations on your new car, I know you’ve had it a few months but don’t think I ever said congrats. I think I saw your car on autotrader before you bought it, so when it popped up with you, I thought I recognise that one..
I’m loving the shark fin addition, do you mind me asking where you tracked it down from. I presume a new small aerial screws into the socket and the shark fin then just fits over everything secured by 3m tape that comes with it?
Well I think my Polo was being built this week, so decided to get organised and order my mats. So the order is In with Autostyle, so should appear in next few weeks. I have gone black with red stitching along with new look logo.

Thanks! Yes it was on autotrader and I decided that for the cost difference and the mods this one already had it outweighed any positives of the facelift.
Shark fin was an ebay find (if I am allowed to say) came under ‘universal shark fin gloss black’
It comes supplied with an open ended threaded bolt so you screw one end into the old slot left from oem aerial removal and then a bolt that holds down the supplied cable which is attached to what must be some sort of flat receiver hidden on the underside of the shark fin. Then yes sticks down with tape!
Word of warning. The supplied bolt was too small in diameter for my polo’s old slot but i found a bolt in the shed i could use.
Thanks ad_182_uk that is really useful. I will have a look around and track one down. Good tip about the bolt ( think I have a box of bolts) so should find something if required.
Don’t blame you on getting one with some mods already down.So wallet wise it’s win, win. I wanted to treat myself to a new one with deep iron inserts (rather than red) and bonus I didn’t need to have keyless as it’s option now% I’ll be interested to see how Matrix headlights work in reality too. also will be keeping it OEM apart from a few little mods I think.

I added some matte black badges this week, definitely think it matches the car a lot better.
Nice! I have the same, easy no brainer mod.
I notice you have the facelift r-line. Those grilles really are minimal aren’t they!
Lots of grille designs on the current Golf and the facelift Polo are quite minimal - large spacing between bars, and large holes on the GTI honeycomb patterned grilles. It probably reduces the amount of raw materials used in their manufacture - VW would say that’s good from an environmental perspective. However…………large holes in those lower grilles provide little to no protection to the a/c condenser behind the grille, so IMHO it’s quite susceptible to damage from projectile stones and other debris flicked up by vehicles you’re behind.
I hope VW have a good stock of a/c condensers for when owners need replacements. It’s also a potential money maker for VW, as damage caused by an ‘external object’ such as a projectile stone wouldn’t be covered under warranty .

What’s new in the above post? Sorry im probably being blind…
It’s the climate control panel.
@Scotty_boy vw’s Polo is a pre-facelift car, but he’s got very good technical and coding knowledge and has added loads of upgrades and tech to his car including upgrades / tech from the facelift Polo. The new buttonless climate control panel is from the facelift Polo, as is the steering wheel and the DSG lever, and probably other upgrades in the pictures that I’ve missed too .
If you search his posts, you’ll see the extent of the changes he’s made to his car.

What is the blue R on the steering wheel? NOS mode?
It looks like the steering wheel that @Scotty_boy vw has fitted may be a mk8 Golf R steering wheel; in the Golf R, the ‘R’ button on the steering wheel is a shortcut to the different driving modes. One of the driving modes in the Golf R is Race mode, so that might be why VW used an ‘R’ rather than label the button as ‘mode’.
