6N2 GTI vibrating at +200 KMH

Afternoon guys,

I have something odd with my GTI. When I go for a topspeed run, from 200 KMH (125 MPH) the car starts vibrating pretty heavily. Not only in the steering wheel but the whole car (i.e. a can in the cup holder will heavily shake).

Did anyone experienced something before and what have you done to it?
Yes balancing the wheels and alining the car are on future plans... But probably somebody has had the same.
Thanks !

Cheers Marvin

Could be RPM related. Is your VVT working properly?

Hi Alex, thanks for your reply and sorry for my late one...
How can I check if VVT is working correctly, or what could be wrong with it?
I don't have the same in other gears, even when at rev limiter.

You need VCDS to check the solenoid is working. It’s hard to tell without

Well noted Alex, I have checked the car a couple of weeks ago and don't think there were any failures.. But will check again.

Shouldn't I experiece it in other gears as well?

It could be a failing cv joint on one of the drive shafts. At max speed there is a lot of stress and any play in a worn joint would be amplified hugely at 125mph!

Good morning Stan (assuming your name )

Many thanks for your reply as well.
This could be a very good one as at very low speeds (so very little noise), I hear some knacking-ish sounds (when driving over a stone road i.e.).
This will usually be the outer one right (so the one that's directly behind the wheel)?

Many thanks for your help.
Will update the outcomes here for future issues people might have.
