Connecting a dash cam directly to the car

I'm looking to connect a dash cam directly to a circuit on a 2008 Polo Bluemotion and wondered if anyone else has done this with this model?
Ideally it would be a circuit that is controlled by the key, so switches off when the engine is turned off. Any suggestion as to the easiest way to do this please?
