Hi, does anyone know if the coil/key reader around the ignition barrel is coded to the immobiliser, ecu etc on a 6n2 gti? Or are these just the sort of thing that is universal? Thanks

I’m not sure whether the coil is specific to the car but it’s connected to a box that lives by the light switch iirc. I’d guess that that’s the part that is paired to the ecu. I believe there is something in the clocks too which makes up part of the immobiliser system.

if you have IMMO with CLUSTER = is connected to cluster
if you have IMMO in Separate BOX = is connected to separate box

All 6N2s have an immo box on the end of the coil. None are cluster immo

Hi thanks for the replies, I know that the cluster is not part of the system, I just wanted to know if the reader that's connected to the box has to be from the same set of ecu/immo or whether another reader will work. Thanks

The reader is just a reader. It’s the box that differs

Out of interest Alex, is the immo box paired to the ECU and the key as a triple pairing or just key and immo box by light switch paired?

Immo box is paired to the ECU and key to the immobox and ECU
