Need Help!!! Engine swap?!

I recently bought a 6n2 gti just to commute to work etc unfortunately the engines seen better days... I'm wanting to source another engine with ECU and plonk it in, my question is... Is it as simple as swapping or do I have to change ignition barrels immobiliser etc? Cheers guys

You’ll need to swap the ECU and immobiliser. Barrel is ok

Yeah you'll need matching ecu, immobiliser and immobiliser chip for the key

Bit late on this I know, but if the mechanicals only are being swapped like for like, there's no need to swap over the ECU or immobiliser is there. It's just lumps of metal ?
