To all forum members who are waiting patiently for their new Polos to be built and delivered; with the lengthy delays that many are currently experiencing, with the benefit of hindsight, would you have done anything different?

That's an interesting one. Some friends have said cancel but there isn't particularly anything else I'm bothered enough about to jump ship.
While I think VW have been left wanting I know I'll get it eventually.
Disappointed that I'll get it as the nights darken again.
Tbh my 2015 GTI model is sweet to drive so really more than happy to sit it out in that.

@johnpolo2, as much of the discussion on the forum is understandably about frustrations over waiting times, I thought it would be interesting to see the results of a poll.

If I was in your position, I’d also be happy to sit it out and wait. I’m very happy with my 2016 Polo GTI, so fortunately don’t find myself playing the waiting game - all being well when I change my current car in a couple of years time, I’m hoping things will have improved by then.

I'm sure VW high command know they have cocked things up and when the factory reopens they'll be churning them out at a far greater speed.
(whoever gets my current car will get a cracking little pocket rocket and still in warranty as I bought a 5 year extended from the factory)

In all fairness, my expectations in terms of delivery time have been met. GTI+ built and on the way within the timescales originally cited by my local dealer.

what options did you go for?
It appears that the less kit a customer loads the car with the quicker it can arrive. VW chat suggested as much to me yesterday.

Limestone Grey + Blind SPot Detection + Rear Camera + Pre-Crash Protection. (Standard 17" Parker wheels)

Looking at another post where one or two of the extra items were missed off, and VW dealer never told them, they had to find out for themselves when they sat in it. I've been told 27 weeks wait, if after this time I find that one or two items were missing, I would refuse the car, as the extras I asked for were missing, the 27 weeks wait would not matter. I would find another manufacturer that could supply me with the items I wanted.

I have recently ordered my new Polo in the past couple of days and the dealer was upfront and honest about the lengthy (40 weeks) lead time but the way I view it is I am going to be the owner of a great quality car with enough modern tech to satisfy my nerdy needs so I am content to wait for my present. Patience is a virtue.

There's always one . My circumstances have altered somewhat recently though a new Polo is still a probability in a month or so. Guess I'm 'lucky' in that I'm not over-fussed right now but a 40+ week wait, come on. A made-to-measure Bentley or Roller maybe, but an (apparently) mass produced hatch ?! You'd say someone is having a laugh but sadly they don't appear to be, in hindsight VW really should have delayed the launch....

I've not been quoted 40 weeks, but 27 weeks is long enough, which I've been quoted. The thing is in 40 weeks surely technology will progress, so the technology of today will be old hat.

But that would be the case with any car model from any vehicle manufacturer. Technology will move on during the lifecycle of a car, so if you buy one, say, two years after launch, it’s a pretty safe bet that newer tech will be available in other manufacturers’ vehicles. That’s why most vehicle manufacturers facelift their cars part-way through a vehicle’s lifecycle to keep their products fresh. The previous generation Polo which was launched in 2009, was face lifted in 2014. Similarly, the mk7 Golf which was lauched in 2012/13, received a facelift at the beginning of 2017. As part of the facelift of each of these vehicles, they received updated tech, in addition to styling tweaks and (for some models in the range) new power plants and gearboxes.

Yes but changes in that timescale will be minor, and anyway it’s effectively a new design with the latest tech. 5 NCAP stars ten years ago are equal to much less than 5 today. It’s a lovely car and worth waiting for. Which is why I bought off the shelf.

One thing with a 40 weeks wait, you'll have a 19 plate motor
