hey ppl,
i was wondering if its ok to put my car into my garage when its wet (after heavy rain) or let it dry off first?

well technically its best to give it a dry off / rub down with a good quality chamois first, or you'll get water spots (indeed a basic wash and then the rub down, in case the rains dirty - or the car is a little)

but really it wont cause any "real" harm, more than leaving outside in the actual rain shower did. unless your garage is badly condusive to damp and stuff, then anything evaporating off the car will hang around, working its rusty effects and soaking into your walls to cause you rising damp problems later on

if the mota's in good nick already though and you don't live by the sea, the water won't have much effect rustwise even if it's permanently wet --- thats what the paint and underseal are for.

Let it cool down ouside first - it sweats otherwise and creates condensation in places where it wouldn't normally get wet......

Generally I wouldn't do it - definately never if it's got snow all over it...

Same here. Don't think all those Polos in hot and humid countries have any problems... so wouldn't think there would a problem with a wet Polo in a UK garage. Could always leave the garage door open for a while if you're worried .

im worried about the humidity when the cars wet and its locked up tight and im wondering if itll rust more easily due to that.

carmadaaron rain ain't the real problem it's the salt they put down during the winter - it gets everywhere. The garage is the best place for a car, protects it from the weather (wet, hot and cold), bird sh1t, cats sleeping on the bonnet and probably something else 'n all.

Oh yeah I think that the 9n is fully galvanised so shouldn't rust for a good few years anyway.

I wouldn't worry about rust on a car as new as that Unless you take it for a dip in the sea every day, it won't start rusting until it's been through a few more owners...

you could whack some air-con in the garage if you're really worried, but the condensation that can build up in places outside on a cold morning is probably just as bad

plus with a fully dipped and galvanised frame as it should have these days, rust will almost always start from outside - so keeping it out of the rain and always tending immediately to stone chips etc is the best way

in theory anyhow

(i'm bottling up all my stone chips for the year to blitz in one go - the worst any of them have is a tiny bit of surface rust anyway, which was there when i first spotted em... no bubbling... even the arches arent terrible after 13 years... so if we assume anti-rust protection has come on at least a little since the mk3...)

Like the others said it isn't gonna make THAT much diff. However, alot of garages are damp cause they arent always constructed with a proper damp proof course, so the damp rises and will settle on the car. So if you always put it in there its not gonna be great for your paint work and in humid/damp conditions the moisture will pool and settle in all the nooks and crannies where as outside it would usually evapourate.

But again, you have a corrosion warrenty so i think you will be alright. And by the sounds of things you clean mud and dirt off on a regular basis, so it wont be an issue.

Cheaper insurance if you car is in the garage, i wish i had one, its such a pain scraping the snow off in the winter

yeah, winter should be good without snow frozen all over the car.
although i can get onto the road quicker.... i cant drive fast with low profile 18s

you need to get yourself some winter steelies then mate not a great idea to be trudging your bling alloys thru all the salt and cruddy slush where the surface is slippery and you can't properly see where the kerb is...
