Halogen headlights

Hi guys,

Getting my new Polo SE a week tomorrow. Just wondering what existing owners think to the standard headlights.

On previous cars, I have more often than not purchased high performance bulbs as I found the standard bulbs to be a bit dingy. Any thoughts?

Cheers

I'd be taking the line that "I" liked the higher output bulbs in my last car, so why not this time again, they can only improve the lighting.

Edit:- make sure that you also replace the "side lights" or whatever these "lights without function" are called right now, if you don't you will see little orangy/yellowy blobs in with your whiteish new bulbs.

Agreed. In the past I’ve always opted for LED sidelights for the reasons you stated. I won’t be interested in doing it yet a while as we are still in this roaring summer but I hope they are easier to change than some previous cars.

One exception being a Fiesta I had a few years ago. You could remove the entire housing quite easily and take it indoors to change the bulbs in comfort.

They should all be like that by now, even my mate's old 2004/5(?) SAAB 9-5s have a function that allows you to remove a couple of retaining screws, or maybe even just one, slide something down to release a plastic catch and ease the head light assembly out without losing its alignment.

I have succeeded to "ejecting" the head light assemblies on my wife's 2015 Polo 6C - that was tricky first time and only prompted/provoked by someone claiming that they did not come off as per the handbook suggested.

Actually, it is exactly the right weather to try this out on your new car as the plastics will be a bit more flexible/tolerant, come dark morning/nights time, they will be a bit less flexible/tolerant to you messing with them.

Late to this thread, just joined.
I've replaced the bulbs in my 'beats' polo with Osram 5K.
They're very white, much whiter than the really yellow standard bulbs, and are now as good as the full LED headlights on my Nissan leaf.
They also match the LED DRL lights much better, it looked stupid with white DRL and yellow headlights before.
Unfortunately, the beam pattern is set far too low and I still need to figure out how to adjust that.
