fuel hose replacement... genuine or generic?

Age has caught up with my old polo and diesel has started leaking from a tiny hose in between the fuel rail and vacuum pump, it's literally a pinhole leak which sprays out like mist all over the engine bay

So I rang around TPS, VW etc. and turns out they don't supply the hose on it's own, it's only available along with the fuel rail and temp sensor for a mere £102!? it'll take 7-10 days to get here too!

As with all 6N2's it's hard to find any breaking but I've managed to source a used one for half that (£52) it's still alot of money for to replace 15cm of rubber! (see pic for how short it is)

I did consider just using silicone and tape but read this could dissolve over time from the fuel so now I'm thinking of using generic fuel hose which is much cheaper and readily available.. even from Halfords!

Has anyone else had to replace a fuel hose, do I take a chance with the generic or shell out for genuine?

I had the same hose split on mine and it was spraying diesel everywhere

Generic from halfords fixed it - it MUST be high pressure fuel injection line marked J30R9 as anything less wont handle the pressure on the line and can fail.

Just keep the curve gentle vs a harder bend

thanks a lot Alex, knew you would come through with the answer! my car would be in the scrap if it weren't for people like you

cheers for the link too, is that the correct diameter?

I'll need to get rid of the diesel smell now with new cabin filter... what's your thoughts on a engine steam clean?

Thats exactly the hose you want :)

Dont go there - makes more problems than it it fixes.

A decent all purpose cleaner - Megs APC or similar (or autoglym engine & machine cleaner), agitate with a brush, wipe it off, then treat plastics with Autoglym vinyl and rubber care :D

Awesome thanks once again!

You've been on here as long as I have, all this time don't remember you having a diesel 6n2? I know you had a couple of GTI's and a 6r diesel
