Help! I'm looking to buy a Polo GTI this coming summer. In the meantime, I've been scanning the ads, and can't seem to find any 2001 models. I thought this car was produced from 2000-2002. If anyone knows differently, please let me know. Thanks... :)

Hi asmsr

Welcome to the forum

Mine is a June 2000 model, I bought it in February 2002 with only 9500 miles on it.

They are a lovely car, and you won't see many of them as they were a limited run vehicle.

Autotrader sometimes have them, might be worth talking to a VAG dealer?

Good luck finding one, you'll love it if you get one!

Oh no...I mean a Polo GTi is a Polo GTi and all are good, but you don't want a five door! :)

Err right....

OK, so what am I missing. What's wrong with the 5 door? And don't tell me it's because GTIs should only come in 3 door models...

Hi mate

I much prefer the 3 door, but it all depends on what you need...

If you have kids, carry passengers a lot of the time (or are a Taxi) you'll need the 5 door...

Otherwise, I recommend the 3 door!

More driver visibility to the sides (pillar is further back), better looks, probably lighter... IMHO!

The decision is yours!

Yeh I know.......exactly what josh said!

And asmsr....yeh GTi's should only be made in 3-Door Model, at least thats what I put in the comments box at my local VeeDub Dealer!

Trials of life with a GTI

Heh, I had a feeling you might say that. I'm a teacher so when I have to take about 60 books home to mark the rear doors would be a big help. Although I do agree that the 3 door would probably be a bit lighter. But overwhemingly, I hate having to climb over seats to get into the back. As for looks, I guess that's purely subjective. But I still think that the Mk V looks much like a much more resolved design than the new Mk VI. What were VW thinking?

ive got a 2001 5 door (i bought it in oct but it had been a demo vehicle b4 that- dont recoment buying a demo car because they are not properly run in :x )
and yes the gti`s are 3 door
if you are looking for economy and speed try an sdi (4 cyl reasonably quick)
however i advise against the tdi because the number of wheels ouit numbers the number of cylinders (3-4)
ps where are you a teacher and what do you teach just out of interest
