Hi guys first time posting here I have a vw polo breadvan I brought a while ago stripped it out and left for nearly a year well now it’s all been resprayed and engine is back in and mostly plumbed in except a few wires I can find homes for them but obviously need to make sure there in the right place. So was wondering if anyone knew of where to get a wiring diagram or had an engine similar to show me what coloured lead goes where ect?? I have pics of the last few wires.

I did take photos but the last few wires I cannot find pics for 😫 :(

Car is vw polo bread van 1982 1093cc engine

Vw often had extra wires that didnt plug into anything. The stepped plug you show with the red wire will connect to a mirror image of it. It should all be fairly obvious, as these engines only have a small number of plugs

Don't worry unduly. Test that you have power to the coil and a spark at the points. If the starter turns, you probably have enough to start the engine. The small object about 2cm in diameter and 3cm long on the side of the carb needs 12 volts for the engine to run. If all of those are good, then everything else is both incidental and probably hard to break. With the power on, mark any lead with 12 volts on and leave them alone. They will be feeds to anciliary components. Others can be grounded in turn to find which ones operate dials or warning lights.
This should help:

lovely cheers found out the car was not turning due to the starter not earthing but i belive they have a earth cable from drivers side next to the mount point then to the engine if im correct?? just wondering if you guys know the correct place for the earth to connect to the engine?? as i have found the little bolt on the drivers side next to the engine mount just need to know where it connects to engine? as im sure there was an earth here in the past that i have lost.

i connected it to a bolt on manifold but this made earth on battery smoke.

Kind Regards,
Connor thanks in advance
