AHW Replacement Engine

Hi Folks
I am looking for a replacement AHW engine.
I know that this unit was used in Golfs and others, but have seen suggestions that the golf unit is not suitable for a Polo because the starter is at the front.
I would have thought that this related to the gearbox not the block. Anyone know for sure?
Anybody got one to sell?

Yes it is related to the gearbox housing. AHW is an AHW. Blocks are identical. Its the ancillary parts that differ

Thanks for that.
AHW units seem quite rare now, BBY are alledged to be new alternative, has anyone done this? is it a straight swap if you use the original fuel & exhaust systems?

BBY in a 6N2 might be troublesome. Different engine management for a start. In a 9N it’s easy

What is the reason for the replacement?

I replaced a BBY (auto) with another BBY (auto) - I'm guessing your's is manual. Just that the flywheel, etc. will differ if swapping auto to man or vice versa. I was going to replace the whole unit but found the bottom end at 90K+ miles was sound and I know it had regular oil changes in my ownership since 27K mls.

Incidentally, there's an AHW on the 'bay with 46K mls.
