Airbag light on

Hi all
I am the proud owner of a polo 1.4 cl 1998 model future classic.this week the airbag light came on so I had it diagnosed as drivers side connection fault.I have looked under the drivers seat but there are no wires there . Where else could the fault be?
Just yesterday the speedo packed in too! Are they related ?
