Ignition barrell problems?..

I went to start up my car today and when I turned my key it just turned around 360° effortlessly without engaging, I then turned it all the way back, something made a clicking noise then when I turned my key again everything worked as normal and the car started up? Anyone know what this could be? Seemed like the barrel was unscrewing or something...
