I got the manual 16v 1.4 2002 polo
Just went to adjust my handbrake as I was hearing creaking from the rear of the car, took off the handbrake cover and was a bit worried and was wondering if this is normal

Looks like your passenger side rear brake is seizing as its bent the handbrake bracket. It shouldnt look like that

As above, many years ago, when I discovered that with my wife’s 9N Polo, I ordered in a new equalising link for an older Golf as it was not listed as a spare part for the 9N Polo - that was a waste of money, as I had not thought that problem through very well!

Edit:- from my single experience of this, that equaliser link might still be okay, just canted over by a seized brake.

Sorry to hijack the thread but its handbrake related. Could a failed or failing brake calliper be the cause for a loose handbrake cable?

Yes if the handbrake lever was seized or the piston is not adjusting as the pads wear.

Thanks RUM4MO. The handbrake handle had become increasingly loose after recently being tightened and the garage said it was a brake calliper that needed replacing and I just wanted confirmation on here.

Thanks for the reply and response, so what should I do, replace the rear brake calipers and possibly handbrake cable? I did recently change the brakes and pads
Also where can I possibly find a new handbrake bracket(didn't see any on ebay)
