Yep, yet another problem post pedal box fitted. When I turned left I got this clonk from the steering wheel, like it has lost a notch or something.

So, yet another trip back to the VW Dealer who confirmed it and said it needed booking in. :!:

It went in and they said a bracket on the Steering column had moved and was clonking

Anyway, seems to be ok now. Least they found the problem and fixed it before I lost it on a bend. :?

After the recall I noticed strange a 'rubbing' noise when the wheel was turned beyond about half a turn or so. Mentioned it to VW but by the time the inspection came round it had stopped making any noise, and so nothing's been done about it. It was like a 'plastic-on-plastic' kind of noise, probably something tightened up a little too much. Nothing out of the ordinary so far though, the car still oges where I point it!

yep, mine did that too, seemed like the steering colum was rubbing against where it mounts into the dash, it was definately cos vw had put it back wrong, but seemed to have sorted itself out now

Well...

I got it back and it seemed to have been fixed for 1 day, and then it started clonking again yesterday morning. So, it's going back in again Thursday for the VW Dealer to do the same work again. :? Apparently it's a bracket that clonks - it's like a locating bracket or something. Leave it to the experts (:?:) when it's a steering issue

Weird

Well, after the VW Dealers diagnosis, it appears that my steering clonk is not the steering column after all since the Pedal Box replacement.

They did extensive testing of all the steering, axle, wheels etc. They think the clonk is from wear in the Trackrod arms. They are ordering 2 Trackrod arms for me to fit in a few weeks to see if it cures the problem.

I'm not convinced, though I notice that each time I get the car back, since they've jacked it up etc this must re-settle the bushes in said Trackrod arms as the clonk disappears for about 30 miles, and then returns later.

But hey if it's done under warranty I ain't complaining.
