My polo is 4 weeks old and only one issue so far - the drivers side air vent was faulty.

Took it in yesterday to be fixed and it was.

However there is some minor damage (no mentioned by them) and only noticed by me on the drive home.

Scratch on the grey bezel around the dials:
Also it looks like they had to glue the vent back in. There is glue on the fascia and around the vent maybe some small scratches on the fascia (could also be glue):
Should I take it back and complain or is this just par for the course?

Absolutely. And take your photos with you.

Definitely take it back.

Sadly, it’s not unheard of for the dealer to cause trim damage while fixing an interior fault such as a faulty vent. Hopefully, because of the location of the damage, they’ll accept it was caused by them.

I can't see how they would be to claim they didn't make the scratches and the glue residue is shocking, they obviously messed it up when removing and instead of replacing the trim pieces they broke and damaged they have tried to fix it by gluing it, I would be right back there complaining in my loudest outdoor voice!

Car wax helps for the metallic trim might also work for the black trim.

Dropped down to VW. Service department gone for the day, back on Monday.

Very helpful guy on the desk sent an email to the service dept for me so at least they have a record of the issue.

we'll see what they say on Monday.

I understand it might be a PITA to get access to the vent to fix it and they may end up damaging stuff sometimes but you'd imagine they have to fix what they break in the process.

I'll let you know what happens...

For sure take it back to be repaired, at VW's cost, seems like the OP has already. Chances are the dealer will (hopefully) fix it, no probs, take plenty of before & after pics, make copies of any paperwork and take note of who you spoke to and what was said just to cover yourself. Good luck, hope it's sorted asap....

Thanks Scott, that's actually really useful to see that it's actually one complete unit.

They obviously broke it when they took it out hence the need for glue. I though that perhaps the glue was a fixing requirement and they had just done a shoddy job of applying it but not - they actually broke the fascia and tried to fob me off with an "Airfix" repair!

I Feel a lot better about complaining now.
