Dipping Wing Mirror GTI+

Hi guys.

I've managed to set my passenger side wing mirror to dip when I put the car into reverse and was just wondering if the same can be done for the driver's side?

Reading through the manual and it reads like it can be done but when I do the same setup process for the driver's side it doesn't dip?

Is it only the passenger side that does this?

Cheers :)

You can do one or the other on the Golf and Audi A1 (last gen) not both. Can't remember whether you need VCDS to select your drivers side for tilting (I think so). No reason to think same wouldn't apply to the Polo.

Saw and nicked the following from a Golf forum (I'm sure they won't mind, we are all into VWs), tried it on my Golf and it works so should on a Polo:

1. Turn on ignition, but don't start the engine.
2. Select reverse gear.
3. Select passenger side mirror on mirror control knob.
4. Adjust passenger side mirror so you can see the kerb.
5. Take car out of reverse gear and return to neutral, or Park in automatic gearbox.
6. Turn off the ignition and the passener side mirror will (hopefully) return to the normal 'O' position, if you have the memory control module (presumabaly part of the Mirror Pack).

To use the dip function, the mirrror control knob must be kept to the passenger side position.

The mirror returns to the normal postition once moving off.

Did you manage to get the drivers side to dip? I can only seem to do passenger which isn’t helpful as I park on the drivers side.

I didn't unfortunately. Sure I read on here that only the passenger side dips.

As far as I know, it’s only the nearside mirror that dips, to help you avoid kerbing your near side alloys when parallel parking. Why would you want the offside/ driver’s side mirror to dip?

I parallel park on the drivers side on my road and just want to avoid kerbing my alloys. The kerb isn’t that high but it would help if the mirror dipped!

It works on both sides, as VW also make Left hand drive Polo's, so left hand drivers, can dip the right hand mirror. If you set the mirror switch to the right hand mirror, when you put the car into reverse, the right hand mirror will dip. If you put it into the central position, neither will work.
When I first got my Polo I set the nearside mirror to the position I wanted so I could the curb, I didn't realise I had to keep the switch on the left hand side and I wondered why it didn't work, till I read the handbook.
So if reversing in between two cars, I just put the mirror switch to the central position so I can see the cars either side of me.
I hope this clears things up?

One thing you have to remember is has the GTI or GTI+ have the reversing option?
If you car has dipping mirrors, the site below will explain how to do it, I realise it's not a Polo, but it works on my Polo SEL

The passenger side dips on L but the drivers side doesn’t dip on R for me. I’ll just leave it :P

I don't have my Polo GTI+ to check (in the garage for warranty work, and the wife's away out for the evening in hers, but on my Golf R, if the car was set up for RHD (UK), you could have the nearside mirror tilting if the mirror control knob was pointing to "L". You had to set the car up to LHD (which would adjust headlight/dipped beampattern for continental driving) in the menus before it would allow tilting of the (in the UK) drivers side mirror by selecting "R" on the mirror control knob. I'd assume a similar set-up on the Polo with electric mirrors whereby you can't just decide which mirror you want to tilt. Haven't tried it, but I have left my wing mirrors on "R" before in the Polo and not seen a tilt in reverse.

I think you are right as i recall few weeks back my LHD polo do nothing while in L position.

I just spoke to the dealer and they confirmed for RHD that it will only dip on L as that’s where the kerb is when you parallel. My road is just an exception then!
