Just had a update from ABT the tuners for The Vag group and they just realised a upgrade for the Gti 40bhp power upgrade and 40 nm of torque. A big plus is it does not affect your warranty as they will protect it

How are they doing it? Have they cracked the Bosch MG1 ECU? Or are they highjacking the boost and fuel sensors to trick the ECU into more power?

If it's an official map (like Mountune/Ford), then perhaps they were given the means to crack it.
If it's an official product, I'd expect it to be a remap rather than a running box.
Such a modest increase makes sense - mechanically sympathetic to the original hardware, and fits in with what Burgersports said about the limitations of the stock intercooler on output - cannot cope with more than 250ps.
It also avoids stepping on the Golf GTI's toes as the lowest current output Golf GTI - "GTI Perfornance" is 245ps.
I'd be all over this if it is:
1. Official and warranty friendly
2. Available for both pre and post implementation of GPF, because the new white GTI+ is the wife's and the Red pre-WLTP one is mine.

Ditto.
Would love to hear more about this if anyone goes for it.

Yes can you provide a link please Wayne, I’m definitely interested in this plus my insurance will only allow a tune up to a maximum of 20%, cheers.

Think the link is this, just press the configure now button.

It’s not a remap and the warranty does not appear to cover the U.K.

When the Italians crack the code and a remap becomes freely available to all tuners for EUR 100, believe me... everybody will know about it and every tuner will brag about the possibility of remapping the GTi

Until then, only power box is available from many different manufacturers.

Looks like an OBD port plugin from the picture. Not an official VAG endorsed product, no official VW warranty protection. Warranty for a number of countries but not the UK (presumably insurance backed - this is why £400 UK remaps are £800 elsewhere).

Looking at the pictures it actually looks like an ECU swap. If it does swap out the ECU then there is no way VW would be able to tell the engine has been tuned if you swap back in the ECU for warranty work.

Actually reading more
https://www.abt-sportsline.com/tuning/p ... abt-power/ about what they do it doesn't look like a hardware addon but does way more than a tuning box.

The description given by ABT is
2,0 TSI 147 kW (200 HP), 320 Nm to approx. 176 kW (240 HP), 360 Nm
Only for vehicles with automatic transmission
consisting of: ABT-ECU (AEC), bracket set, cable harness and mounting kit
In this technology, the ABT Power Software is used in an additional engine control unit, the ABT Engine Control (AEC). Thus, ABT ensures the high standard in performance increase also in new developments and increasing high-tech in vehicles.
Your advantage: The serial engine control unit remains untouched and the vehicle is completely diagnosable. And when it comes to the quality of AEC, the high standards of the VW Group apply.
Article number: 2G00120240DKZC/1
ABT lists my nearest dealers/sales partner as my local VW Van dealer and Audi dealer.
