Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
I bought an Obdeleven dongle and installed the software. A bit of a pain to get it to connect. But in the end I was able to read out
the particle filter status. 300mg of soot, and last regen corresponding to when I took the car to the garage in Dijon. So I will now
be able to do regular readouts and chek on its status.

Clearly the VAG DPF application numbers readout are not good.
Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Drove home 15 miles from work last night and into work this morning. A lot of stop start and slow traffic. Fuel consumption has been about 15 mpg down on normal. Exhaust resonance definitely increased and burning smell noted from air vents inside car. Think my polo GTI Plus may be doing its first forced regeneration at approx 1600 miles?

I had the same experience on a 13 mile (one way) commute at 2000 miles. Traffic slow in my area due to on going roadworks.Sport172 wrote:Drove home 15 miles from work last night and into work this morning. A lot of stop start and slow traffic. I try to find some space on the dual carriage way to work and use sport mode to keep the revs high

Thanks Monty831. Maybe I’ll try Sport Mode on the drive home tonight. No dual carriageway way for me though. The numbers may not be off.Gueron wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 6:27 am I bought an Obdeleven dongle and installed the software. A bit of a pain to get it to connect. But in the end I was able to read out

Diesels measure in grams, while a petrol engine will emit much much less soot. So milligram may not be wrong.
Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Car felt a bit weird this morning. The temperature inside the car was around 6 degrees. Not sure if this is the same for other members with a GTI, but my car normally takes around 5-10 mins to reach 4 bars on the temperature gauge (90 degrees oil temp, I think). This morning though it seemed to jump from 1 bar to 4 in the space of around 2 minutes.
Noticed the car felt jerky and just didn't feel right compared to normal. The car was really loud as well, was like I had modded the car and the exhaust was 5x louder. Parked up when I got to my destination and there was a sort of burning smell coming from the bonnet. I've had a regen at around 6,000 miles but this one felt a bit different to normal. Strange as the car is now at 6,800 miles so the regen wasn't that long ago.
Drove back to my hometown which was a 70 mile trip and felt the car change halfway through, as if it just sorted itself out. Hopefully that's the last one for a while.

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Yesterday regen started again !!
I am now on 16200kms so about double the mileage of my first incident back in January.
With the french lock down I am not allowed to drive much (I am semi retired). So no chance
to just drive around to sort it.. and no nearby motorways either..
It happened on a 35 mile round trip (country roads) to the RSPCA where I walk abandoned dogs
every week. On the return trip usual dashboard requests to change down and keep the revs up.
Over consumption about 15 to 20%. From my reading the car needs to get exhaust temperature
up (more fuel) and allow oxygen through the motor to allow burning, so take the foot off with high
revs (lower gear, I have a manual box) and I did that on the return trip. The higher the revs the
greater the air flow. But difficult to make any meaningful impact on short drive to and from the
shops (lockdown...)
Will see on my next RSPCA trips whether I can get back to normal without taking the car to the garage
again...

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Update on my regen status.
Back in march I bought a Obdeleven dongle to allow me to read out engine data.
The idea being to check my GPF soot level regularly.. which didnt happen..
Anyway back from the drive where regen started I did a readout :
soot mass 2376mg, soot load 36.9%, and blockage rate 0.9898
Short trip to the shops yesterday (12 miles roundtrip) this dropped a little
to 2255mg and 34.9%. Today I did the dog walking run (some 35 miles),
and now I am at 1802mg, and 27.8%.
So it looks like it will take me a few more outings before getting back to normal
but at least it seems to be going in the right direction.
Would be interesting to see if anyone else has some numbers ??
The VAG SSP-558 document mentions active regeneration required when
exceeding 55% but I dont think I was that high...

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Not noticed any sign of a regen in my 1.0Tsi (13000 miles) or my Gti (which may be too new anyway).
Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
How do you get this read out on OBDeleven , thanks in advanceGueron wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 5:33 pm Update on my regen status.

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
How does one know if they have GPF? Bought mine 1.0 tsi last year in June, from the stock, so not sure if I have one.

I figured it out after some digging, if anyone is interested you go to control unit, 01 Engine, live data, then tick all the boxes you want the data for. My car is 19% full & has done 6594 miles not sure if it’s had a regen

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
So, basically, petrols can be just as liable to short journey problems as diesels now?
I need back into an electric car ASAP....

Re: Anyone had forced GPF regens yet?
Did my dog walking run yesterday, with plenty of overruns (foot off the accelerator). Back home connected up OBD11 and measured soot level, and.. not much change around 100mg (1700+) less. Tuesday I got rid of ~450mg on a similar drive.. So only thought was maybe lower outside temperatures (maybe 8C ? less) could be cause ? Firstly air flow through the bonnet naturally cools more, and air flow through engine both prevent keeping the exhaust filter temperature high enough to burn off ?? Next time, if ambiant temp is cold I will try mostly cruise cotrol and leave the engine management to control lean/rich burn since it also measures exhaust temperature. When I first had the problem in January it was also cold weather...
