1.4 8v gearbox on 1.6 8v?

Hello i just bought me a polo 6n1 1.6 8v. But the gearbox in it is broken as f...
So i was wondering if i could use my gearbox from my 1.4? I know there might be a little difference but would it hurt in any way or so

I have the same question, but the other way around..
Got an 1,4 8V with a dodgy gearbox, and I've have my hands on a gearbox from a 1997 1,6 8V.
I would guess there are some differences with the gearing, but I would mind getting a little bit lower revs in 5th gear / 110 kph.

I can tell you by now that they dont fit. Sadly

Wow.. That was a suprise. I've read up on the VW Polo 6n1 and from what I've found ut, they should be the same (085 gearbox) with different ratios. Are we talking totally different or just minor things?
