Hill Hold Control activation on PQ25 platform

Post by exantas »

Does anybody know if Hill Hold Control option can be activated on PQ25 platform cars?
Is it something that can be enabled in VCDS?

Demo from a different platform car but you get the idea

I think that the minimum requirement is to have a car that has ESP written on the ABS block casting, then you should be able to select that function using VCDS.

Yes, it can be done with VCDS, byte 16 bit 0 (ESP 8.2i and 9.0i)

Thank you for your answers.

I will have to get my hands on a VCDS to find out the abs module version my car has. Theoretical speaking, if the car doesn't have the esp disable button, does it mean that it doesn't have esp function at all?

Yes, that's a safe assumption

Are you sure, I'm sure that newer cars with the bigger infotainment panel, have that "switch" if it exists within car settings.

Well I assumed the question was for the pq25 platform, since that's what the topic was about. For the newer mqb or MLB based cars, you're completely right.

I could be wrong, or am wrong, but I know that it is clear when the "electronics package" was added to the Polo, but it seems that for the equivalent Ibiza it is a bit blurry, depending on which sales territory the cars were being sold into, so as this posting seemed to be about a Fabia, I considered that the same thing applies to it, ie like the Ibiza, where some sales territories ended up with or without the new electronics package at a certain point in time.

Today I ordered a VCDS* cable. Provided it works on my car, I will start with a complete scan and go from there.

As many features, hill control I would expect that it might require hardware that is not present in my car. But I wanted to get the initial information on where to start looking. If it's plausible to start with.

I will start looking on the byte that iichel mentioned

From the start of production (2009) until end of MY2012 it was either Bosch ESP8.2i or ABS8.2. from that point on, my2013, it was either Bosch ESP9.0i or ABS9.0. This coincided with the introduxtion of the 2.0 tfsi engine in the polo R and Audi A1 quattro and the 312mm brakes on the cthe 1.4 tsi engines (polo gti+Ibiza fr+ fabia vrs). I'm fairly certain the EU spec polos came with hill hold as standard with the ESP package.

It's a different story for other features like indirect TPMS or the XDS differential. Even though both are software features (TPMS had a button but van be replaced with a vcds action) they don't always come as standard on polos.

How it is for the equivalent Ibiza, fabia or A1 (the latter shares the ABS ECU with the pq25 platform), I'm not 100% sure.

I'd think that once the ABS block has been identified as being "ESP" then it is just a case of coding changes. I thought the ABS block on these car did have ESP stamped on the machined valve block and you could see it just by looking at it, unless I've missed something, I did not notice that on my wife's 2015 Polo, maybe I need to look a bit closer - but it does have Hillhold Lite from factory.

Edit:- VCDS will reveal that without looking under the bonnet!
