Hi James,
I believe electronic and manual immobiliers are Cat 2 systems only
Hope that helps

hey there
cheers for your help, but i rang gap security about getting a Cat1 Clifford avatel maxx 1 and they said that on mk4 the key coded immobiliser is not Cat approved at all. So had to have the whole kit alarm and immobiliser

As long as it keeps the thieving chavs knicking my car i dont mind

To be honest i would have recommended that anyway - the clifford imobiliser is much better than the VW one.
glad you got it sorted

I've been reliably informed that the uprated models (1998 onwards?) all have cat2 immobilisers - so you should be able to get a cat2 to cat 1 upgrade which is a lot cheaper.

no that was for the original posters question!
you'll have to ring for a quote. I'm sure fitting costs about 80 quid.
