On the Gti ive noticed on first fill up that the petrol flap is not fullt flush with the body of the car? is this normal with the polo gti ? Also when the flap is open , the plastic attached to the flap itself this is not flush fitting, there is a gap... hopefully normal?

I don’t have a current model Polo GTI, but I would expect the fuel filler flap to be fully flush with the rear quarter panel when it’s closed, with an even sized gap around the edge of the filler flap and the surrounding panel (it is on my previous generation Polo GTI).

If you live close to a VW dealership or go past one on your travels, you could have a look at other Polos on the forecourt or in the showroom and compare the fit of the fuel filler flap on those cars to yours - it doesn’t have to be a GTI as the filler flap is the same on all current model Polos, irrespective of the model.

If you’re not happy with yours, take it back to the dealer and get them to adjust it so it’s a flush fit. On my previous three VW’s (all German built Golfs), all of them had one or more misaligned panels that had to be adjusted; so much for German build quality! 😯. No trouble with panel fit / panel gaps on my Spanish built Polo though.

We have 2 GTI+ in our household and neither fuel flaps are spot on with uniform gaps all round. The flap seems to be a little towards the rear of the hole in the rear wing that accommodates the flap. It's the same for both cars.

There doesn't seem to be any adjustment on the black plastic hinge that the body coloured flap clips onto, although I only had a quick look in semi-dark conditions.

Yes I've just noticed mine's the same. When shut it sits slightly proud of the rear quarter panel. I'm sure it's been like that since new but I can't unsee it now!
