1.6tdi coolant loss and smoke

I have a 2014 1.6tdi 105bhp. Its using a bit of coolant and sometimes theres alot of smoke coming from the exhaust. Do these engines suffer from head gasket problems or is the egr cooler more likely. What tests can I do to decide which one is faulty ?
