can anyone tell me weither the self adjustable clutch cable for the mk3 polo is a dealer part only.
i went down to my local motor factors today for one and he said they were, and gave me a manually adjustable one instead.

I don't know.. but you really don't want a self adjustable one :/ Considering how long it'll be between adjustments, you really might as well save yourself the hassle of the bite point changing every time you dip the clutch and just go for a manual cable..

Ye, the self-adjusting clutch cables were discontinued years ago by vw because they are a bad idea. Stick with the manual adjusting one.

halfords do em fairly inexpensively, but you may be as well to see if there's a GSF/Eurocarparts/etc round your way

or get online and save on the shipping by buying several regularly needed bits at once (filters, oil, plugs, etc, all decent stuff at knock-back prices)

Like Tahrey says, get online to GSF -

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/

and check the prices out :)

*ahem*
also meant to add as well, just in case it hadnt been said loud enough already :D .... get a manual adjust one

you only have to set it like once a year if that.
i.e. the initial lengthy tweaking when you install it, and then just a small nudge after 10000 miles, when the clutch has finally worn enough since last time to make any meaningful impression on the bite point...
and of course when the clutch is almost dead! (like mine which had no friction material left at all!)
