Hi hope everyone is keeping safe , my son picked up his brand new polo gti+ reef blue end of March, so far he has just clocked 300 miles ,an annoying rattle /vibration sound has developed around what seems to be coming from around the dashboard area , has anyone else had a similar problem , obviously once the dealers are back open I will book it in

IMy car had a dash rattle from factory which turned out to be the sound actuater, once they (VW mechanic) turned it off the problem went away.

The soundaktor is a common cause of dash area vibrations / rattles on the mk7 / mk7.5 Golf. Turning it down or disconnecting it often cures the problem.

I’d always be reluctant to let the dealer pull a car’s interior trim apart to find the source of a rattle; they may create further unwanted rattles or damage parts of the interior trim.

Please check the metal handbrake button.
Mine rattles when the car is cold, and it took a while to work out where it was coming from!

Check the handbrake button. Mine took me months to figure that out and drove me mad. I slipped in a small piece of paper inside and has never bothered me since. You cant even see the paper. Alternatively, you can go to a VW dealer and explain them your issue.

I picked up my gti+ in April 2019, and about 3 months later, it developed an intermittant clicking noise from the passenger side (door/dash) but it sounded mainly as if coming from behind the air vent. The car has been into garage several times, initially VW blamed the fitting of a tracker (which wasnt on that side!) and a loose fitting kessy module (claimed by VW due to tracker install) for which I was charged! Later, after I requested the tracking company check out the car, VW then had the car for a few days with a technician using/keeping overnight so he could assess - I agreed as living with this problem has been a total nightmare. VW have now replaced the whole air vent part on the passenger side, in mid March 2020. I took photos of the interior each time it went into the garage (about 5 times over 8 months) just in case there was any damage. But it seems the noise has gone, but of course I haven't been able to test the car properly, as I am holed up at home due to covid 19. VW dismissed the soundaktor and handbrake possibles in my case, which I think was the right call.

The soundaktor can be a pain as it sits in the engine bay just by the bottom of the windscreen and by design vibrates to make the noise. I had an Octavia VRS that would rattle and buzz terribly because of it. Despite the TPI fix it often still did it. On my test drive in the Polo GTI it also did it when on max volume. Have you turned it off in settings to see if that helps?

Theres a channel on YouTube called HumbleMechanic. Check out his golf R videos, theres a video where he disables the soundaktor. It's on the Golf R but I think it uses roughly the same system as your Polo.

I believe in the drive mode settings if you go to individual and then change at the top right of the screen set engine sound to eco and it turns it off.

On mine it had a rattle in the door button to deactivate the rear windows but I solved with a little of fabric tape. It's something to talk about when I really need to go to the dealership.
