I'm with directline, as an additional driver....
£1300, and i'm 19.
The thing i've got to take into consideration, is that i am an additional driver!
i cant find anyone cheaper. Adrian Flux quoted well over the margin!
EDIT:- forgot to mention, it's a 6n2 1.4 16v AUTO!

how did you lot get cheap insurance on a GTi?

Muz is right you all pay stacks lol. I'm with Direct Line cos again, they were by far and away the cheapest and also provide superb cover. I'm 23, 5yrs NCB, legal protection, NCB protection and my Mum as named driver (I'm the policy holder of course) - most companies (tried Adrian Flux, Churchill, The AA, Tesco and more!) wanted about £1000-1200

DC asked for £495.60
How can there be such a big difference??

I cant believe so many of your are named drivers!
you do know that you are not gaining yourself any NCB right? I had a quote will Elephant for just under £1k on my own policy on a GTi with 1 years NCB.
its just not worth being a named driver. and you lot are so young, I think its wrong to be driving something that quick with only 1 or 2 years driving experience, IMO of course.

I know we're not gaining any NCB, but we don't have much choice as the quotes are either completely stupid or they won't insure us. I know that i'm very lucky to be driving this car at only 19, but I know alot of other ppl my age who drive fast cars, some much faster, as long as u don't abuse the privilage (alot of older people with more 'experience' drive like idiots with only average powered cars, imagine them with performance cars) I think its fine. I definately know my gti ain't 'too' fast for me, i'd like it to be a fair bit faster, but I know that'd just be greedy

sorry for that rant, but i've had my fair share of slow cars, and i'm not going back

I don't really want to bring Saxo and 106 drivers into this, but there's loads of young people driving them around and when they buy them new, they often get a years free insurance. The VTR isn't much slower than Polo and as for the 106 Gti, thats a quick car. They tend to be driven by burberry cap wearing morons, with no road sense what so ever.
After meeting a couple of polo gti owners, we are very mature people. I myself am only just 19, but consider myself to be a mature person behind the wheel. I'll be the first to put my hand up and say i drive fast occasionally, but i know the limit of my driving skills and my car, as i'm sure the rest of the guys and girls on this forum do.
It may seem that i'm been a bit off about your opinion, but i'm not. I respect wot you've got to say, and maybe when you meet some of us young GTi owners, your opinion might change a little.

Agreed, the young owners on this forum do seem very mature, and there are quite alot of us! (well maybe except calvin, he's just a nutter

)

Okay so i'm older than most - being 30, but i tried out the theory that having an even older person as a named driver on YOUR policy reduces your premium - i put my dad on my policy (er,....i'll never let him go near it!) - and it reduced mine to by £70 to £430. I've gone with Admiral (3yrs NCB). Its also even cheaper if you have use of another car (i.e. if you're on your mum or dads). Another good thing with admiral is that if you want to build up your NCB quicker (or just can't afford a whole year) they do you a deal called a "NCB 10-month Bonus Accelerator" where you'll pay and insure for 10 months but after that you'll get another years No claims bonus - making it cheaper for the next year!
