Can anybody help, I’m currently getting my boot smoothed and wanted to re-locate the number plate to my 16v rear bumper, but I’m have problems with the MOT as the number plate has to be illuminated to pass.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I can illuminate my plate in the bumper without having to stick some unsightly lights on there?
number plate re-location

major work to do that.
What you need is the recess from another car (which has lights fitted(you could use a mk5 one)), cut this out of the original bumper and fit it to your bumper.
heres how my was done.

no unsightly lights cause they are in the top of the cut out. you can't see em unless your under the car.KITT wrote:don't have any unsightly lights on the back
not quite... you need to build the square walls up (if you look at the cut out from the side its like an upside down L. You would need to measure how big your plate will be, then cut this hole into your bumper. now take a flat piece of fibreglass (or something strong that can be bonded and painted) and construct an open ended cube.Tommy83 wrote:Just cut a hole in the bumper a little smaller than the number plate, stick the plate over the hole, but how would I fix the lights plus what lights would I use??
Take this cube and put it in the hole you've cut with the open side facing out, then trim down the edges so they are flush with the bumper edges, then smooth with P38 filler and paint.
Its quite a demanding task and WILL crack over time if its not done correctly, speak to a body shop if your not 110% sure you can do it.
The TVR plates retail for £35 (but may have changed prices, i enquired whent he T350 was very first launched) and depending on what dealer you go to determines if they will sell you the part without a chassis number (my local is a prestige car dealer and was very put out when i park my car between the porsches, astons and bentlys
When you buy the plate it comes with all the fitting kit and instructions. basically the plate is semi transparent and the lights behind it shine through.
hope that helps
