Hi folks..
Need to upgrade the head unit in my daughters 2014 vw polo TSI... I've sent pictures of my original head unit to a seller on aliexpress but the seller wrote back saying he thinks mine is a 6R and I need a different one China only does 6C polos, I'm not sure which variant I have, but I can provide part of my vin number which I think could indicate its a 6R but I need to be sure, can anybody help? I've posted on the ICE section with a similar question but so far I've not had any reply... Here is the body description/type.
TSI DBA 6RCJZ 5DR A... any help?

One way to work it out is:- is the turbo charger mounted at the front of the engine, if so it is a late 6R, conversely if the turbo charger is mounted at the rear of the engine it is an early 6C, simple as that.

I really wouldn't have a breeze where the turbo charger is.. TBH I wouldn't even know where to start or what it even looks like..

Just one more question regarding picking the right head unit and installing it.. It seems the ones for the 6C are MQB rcd330 units which have an extra component (facia piece) if this is right do I have to use the fascia that comes with it or can I use the original current one?

i'm pretty sure the rcd330 does not work with the 6c.

the 6c has two parts (the main unit in the glovebox and just the screen in the dash).

i've been wanting to change mine but so much is controlled through it you have to be 100% that it will all work after.

Cheers dink.. Hopefully it will work but It's getting a bit confusing now, apparently an adapter is needed? MBQ to PQ.. Is there anybody on here that has upgraded to this configuration.. 2014 Polo 6C with RCD330 MBQ version?
It's a lot of hassle to get carplay.. If only the original radio was compatible!!

I have the same car, colour and engine too and gearbox

I wanted to upgrade to the 330 Plus, its a nightmare, one thing that i important, you might loose the car settings, with mine i can only set my TPMS on the head unit, as well as my lighting for my headlights, wipers, door operation, ESC system... and so on, i dont know if the RCD 330s have this option i have been looking for months and cant find anyone who has that option on the 330s, a better option for you might be to go with a unit from Xtrons, they will retain the function, and will include all the conversion adapters and you can also add rear view cameras and a Car play dongle for IOS devices.

Also does your unit have App connect?

Cheers tex.. It has mirrorlink which doesn't work.. I'm wondering because it's a Japanese import was there some alteration done by the dealer, when we went to view the car my daughter tried the radio and there was only static, the dealer mentioned getting a booster fitted? and it works now! So I'm thinking it may be that the radio is Japanese and different to a European original radio and can't work with either mirrorlink or carplay..

Mirror Link will be for Android mostly, What you could try is see if your local VW dealer has a fimware update that can "Install Car play" through a update, i know some manufactures do it, im not sure if VW can, else go with a RCD 330, and give it a try and if it doesnt work you can end it back with Ebay returns.
